Reactions continued to condemn the Houthi execution of 9 people by firing squad in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, on Saturday, on charges of involvement in the killing of a senior Houthi official in 2018.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres "deeply regretted" the execution of those "who, according to information indicating that he was a minor at the time of his arrest, was a minor," said a statement issued by the Secretary-General's spokesman, Stephane Dujarric.

The statement added that Guterres "strongly condemns" the executions "which resulted from judicial procedures that did not appear to respect the requirements of a fair trial."

Washington described the execution as a "outrageous act", and the acting US ambassador to Yemen, Kathy Westley, said in a statement that one of those executed was a minor (...) This heinous act is another example of the Houthis' indifference to basic human rights.

The nine who were executed are among a group of 16 people who appeared before a Houthi-controlled court on charges of involvement, 3 years ago, in the killing of the head of the group's Supreme Political Council, Saleh Al-Samad.

The incident was also condemned by the Netherlands-based Rights Radar Organization for Human Rights in the Arab World, saying that the Houthi group did not dare to carry out the executions of the nine civilians except because of the silence of the international community about its successive crimes since 2014, which go unpunished.

The American Center for Justice said in a statement, "We condemn the Houthi group's execution of 9 of the sons of Tihama, on charges of planning and cooperating in what was known over the past months as the play of the trial of the Al-Samad killers."

He added that the Criminal Court under the control of the Houthi group in Hodeidah, "through an illegal trial and lacking the minimum standards of justice, issued in August last year a death sentence for 62 defendants in the Al-Samad killing case, including the nine whom it executed today after torturing and forcibly disappearing them throughout the period of their abduction and until kill them."
