To reach "Fire", Financial Independence Retire Early, you first need to calculate how much money you want to live on each month.

For Sandra Bourbon, it is SEK 16,000 and to reach her goal, she currently saves 50 percent of her income.

In nine years, she hopes to be able to live on the return on her investments.

For two years she saved intensively.

- I did not spend any money outside, ate boring food, never bought coffee outside or met my friends.

I basically just paid my rent.

Less popular

Always having a lunch box instead of eating lunch outside is an example of how Sandra saves money.

She reckons that her lunch boxes will save her SEK 1,600 a month.

With an eight percent return, it will be 3.7 million after 35 years, of which just over 3 million according to her come from the "interest-on-interest" principle.

But her extreme lifestyle caused her to lose some friends.

- It was not fun to feel stingy, not to be able to share a bill outside if I have not eaten as much as others.

Especially when people know you have a lot of money, says Sandra Bourbon.

Now she thinks she has found a balance in saving.

- I have my own bank card to be able to treat myself and no longer get as much anxiety from spending money.

Today, for example, I can buy a coffee outside.

Every tenth younger than 25

The finance office has spoken to a number of banks and online brokers, all of whom say that interest in saving among young people has increased sharply.

This applies not least to investments in shares.

The trend started ten years ago and has gained real momentum in step with the price increases after the corona race.

At one of the online brokers, the influx of new share savers has increased by 37 percent during 2021. And the proportion of new customers who are 24 years or younger has grown from eight percent to almost ten.

However, according to the banks and online brokers, the proportion of these young savers who have the goal "Fire" cannot be answered.
