Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video post on Facebook on Sunday that US President Joe Biden fell asleep when he met the new Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.

In the video that Netanyahu posted on his Facebook page, a voice away from the camera says, "You know, Bennett met Biden."

"I heard about it. I heard that Biden was so attentive in this meeting that he fell asleep in agreement (for what Bennett said)," Netanyahu replied, letting his head fall quickly as if he was mimicking a sleepy person.

Netanyahu's reference to Biden's meeting was a small part in a 26-minute video in which he touched on a variety of political issues.

But it made headlines on Israeli news sites, many of which accused Netanyahu of mocking Biden.

On August 27, Biden received Bennett at the White House, in the first meeting that brought the two men together since they took office this year, and they discussed together several files, including the Iranian file and the Middle East peace process.

A Reuters report earlier revealed the false notion that Biden fell asleep during his meeting with Bennett, after social media users shared a video clip of the US president, which they said shows him looking down and falling asleep while Bennett was speaking in the Oval Office.

The Reuters report makes it clear that the circulating video clip was misleadingly clipped.

Seconds after the clip ended, Biden appears in a longer clip responding to Bennett.

Netanyahu, 71, head of the right-wing Likud party, has largely followed the same path as former US President Donald Trump on Middle East policies.

In June, a new government of left, center, right and Arab parties led by Bennett replaced the government of Netanyahu, Israel's longest-serving leader.

Now Netanyahu is in the opposition, but he has vowed to return to power again.
