Against all expectations, Sandrine Rousseau, outsider of the environmentalist primary, qualified in the second round of the ballot with 25.14% of the vote against Yannick Jadot, who won 27.70% of the vote.

How to analyze this result?

Should Yannick Jadot fear his competitor?

Response with Louis de Raguenel, head of the political service for Europe 1.

TO ANALYSE

No one was betting on her just a few weeks ago.

And yet, Sandrine Rousseau managed to pull out of the game during the environmentalist primary by arriving in second place in the ballot, just behind Yannick Jadot.

How to explain this unexpected result?

The ecofeminist candidate has recently emerged in the media and has stood out thanks to sharp statements.

Is his radicalism, which seduced one in four voters in the primary, a threat to Yannick Jadot, his more moderate competitor?

Nothing is won for Yannick Jadot

On paper, Yannick Jadot is the favorite in this first round.

He will find himself in the second round against Sandrine Rousseau, who is on a harder line.

Two completely opposed candidates are therefore qualified.

And things will get complicated for Yannick Jadot because he has few reserves of votes.

It is quite likely that the voters of Delphine Batho and Eric Piolle refer quite widely to Sandrine Rousseau.

Will Yannick Jadot resolve to support Anne Hidalgo?

But what will Yannick Jadot do if he wins in the second round? Will he support Anne Hidalgo, the candidate of the left, or will he go until the first round of the presidential election? Even if it means taking the risk of losing the whole left ... And what about Sandrine Rousseau? She may be tempted to get closer to Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the event of a defeat in the second round of the primary. And if she wins, will she go all the way to the first round? No response at this stage. But one thing is certain: the left has very little chance of winning the presidential election if it leaves so divided.
