September 18, 2021 The pediatric ward, and consequently the birth point, of the Lanusei hospital in Sardinia is closed until 20 September. Reason: the lack of coverage of pediatricians' shifts due to their chronic shortage. Children and expectant mothers will be referred to other health facilities. The decision comes with a note from the extraordinary commissioner of the Assl of Lanusei sent to the leaders of the region, Ats, other Assl of Sardinia, Aou of Cagliari and Sassari, Arnas Brotzu, prefect of Nuoro and mayors.

The trade unions

"This is how the problem is eliminated - the Cosmed and Anaao Assomed secretariats attack - what was feared in recent weeks, buffered with the willingness to cover shifts by some consultants from other offices, has now happened." other than to highlight what is happening. A retirement, a transfer, a non-renewal of a contract, illness and accident make the already precarious situation jump. In fact, out of 9 positions in the workforce to date, only 3 presences are guaranteed, obviously, , too few to keep a ward open that must ensure assistance to children and newborns throughout the 24 hours. One wonders if, among the 6 positions of pediatricians banned by Ats Sardegna, there is any resource for the pediatrics of Lanusei,or "if this peripheral territory continues to remain unguarded and forgotten, too far from the political 'center' to be considered a priority".

Assistance denied?

"In the premise of the preliminary regional plan for the reorganization and requalification of health services - the trade unions conclude - it is emphasized that it is" the responsibility of the public administration to guarantee all citizens the highest sustainable quality of health services and allocate them as close as possible to the places of life and work ". Today in Ogliastra this type of assistance is in fact denied".
