Stockholm is the region in Sweden that usually has the most international visitors.

The fact that global travel has not fully resumed therefore weighs more heavily on the capital region than other parts of the country.

In August, accommodation income was 55 percent lower than in the same month in 2019 before the pandemic broke out.

- In August, there are usually more overnight guests from, for example, the USA, India, China and also from other parts of Europe, says Stefan Westerberg who is chief economist at the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce and has produced statistics on the Swedish hotel market.

Belief in the future of the industry

The hotel industry in Sweden withdrew just over SEK 1.5 billion in August this year.

Stockholm County accounted for just over SEK 400 million of that sum - more than a quarter of the total revenue.

- I think the entire hotel industry will go up sharply when the restrictions are removed on September 29, says David Viklund who is hotel director at Clarion Hotel Sign in central Stockholm.
