Rep. Hong Joon-pyo, a candidate for the People's Power presidential primary, took a step back, saying, "If I say I'm not a citizen, I will change my mind" in response to the remark that "the investigation into the homeland family was an excessive investigation", which provoked strong opposition from conservative supporters.

Rep. Hong said on SNS, "I will not insist on my usual opinion on the investigation of the motherland, but I will change it. That is democracy and collective intelligence," he said.

In addition, in a recent TV debate, he also shot down Rep. Ha Tae-kyung, who asked if he was a spokesperson for the Democratic Party for his remarks about the fatherland incident.

Rep. Hong linked to a YouTube video where Rep. Ha appeared on a broadcast in December 2019 and said, "The courts are already full of evidence, so it is possible to prove guilt without arresting the former Minister of Justice." A person who was like this about the fatherland incident."

Next, Rep. Ha recalled his past with the Bareun Party and said, "When I split the party, I insisted on dismantling the Liberty Korea Party."

Rep. Hong also criticized former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, who led the founding of the Bareun Party at the time, saying, "These candidates who split the party at the time of impeachment do only the things that are reminiscent of Mr. Lee Jeong-hee during the December 2012 election."
