The authorities of Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, are investigating the death of Cristina Toncu, 30, a cake designer residing in Chivasso (Turin), which took place last September 2 in the hospital of the former Soviet city.

The woman, together with her husband, had turned to a Moldovan clinic to attempt assisted fertilization.



During the egg retrieval surgery on August 26, she went into cardiac arrest, went into a coma and never woke up.

The Moldovan Ministry of Health was also interested in his case.



The family relied on lawyers to follow the investigation. Cristina had met Stefan in Moldavia and followed him to Italy. They got married four years ago and wanted to have a baby. For this the woman had undergone the operation.
