A heinous crime .. a doctor kills her three daughters in New Zealand
A woman accused of killing her three daughters just weeks after the family arrived in New Zealand from South Africa appeared in court on Saturday.
A court spokesman said Lauren Ann Dickason appeared in court in the coastal city of Timaru in the morning and that the judge had renewed her detention in hospital for an assessment of her mental state.
Police said Dickason, 40, is accused of killing her two-year-old twin girls and their six-year-old sister.
Their bodies were found on Thursday in the house where the family was staying.
"Police would like to reassure the community that this was an isolated tragic incident and we are not looking for anyone else," the police said in a statement late on Friday.
Dickson will appear in court again on October 5th.
New Zealand media reported that Dickason and her husband, Graham, are both doctors.
According to the British newspaper "The Sun", Dr. Graham, an orthopedic surgeon, returned home, where he found his twins, Maya and Carla, and Leanne, six years old, dead and started screaming: "Is this really happening?"
Police were called to the horrific scene where the mother was charged with the murder of her three daughters.
The family had just emigrated from Pretoria, South Africa, and settled in their new home in Timaru, on the South Island of New Zealand.
