After a traffic accident with two dead and one seriously injured, the Frankfurt public prosecutor brought charges against the alleged perpetrator.

The 39-year-old German is accused of double murder, dangerous bodily harm and illegal car racing, said chief prosecutor Nadja Niesen in Frankfurt on Friday.

The accident occurred in November last year in Frankfurt's Ostend.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the 39-year-old driver was driving a 625 hp car, which he accelerated sharply at several traffic lights.

After switching off the vehicle's security system, the car crashed into a cyclist at 82 kilometers an hour.

The cyclist died.

A 61-year-old man who was putting objects in his car on the side of the road was also killed by the force of the impact.

His 31-year-old daughter was seriously injured.

Witnesses had previously reported that the BMW X6 was said to have raced along Oskar-von-Miller-Strasse in Frankfurt's Ostend.

This is also indicated by the traces at the scene of the accident.

When the BMW hit the sidewalk, it almost swept away a three-foot-thick concrete pillar of a house.

According to Niesen, the indictment is based on the murder criterion of public danger.

The alleged perpetrator was arrested in March this year and has been in custody ever since.

According to the indictment, he is said to have been suspicious of road traffic offenses several times and to have participated in medical and psychological examinations four times.

According to Niesen, he has not yet commented on the allegations.

The trial dates before the jury chamber of the Frankfurt Regional Court have not yet been set.
