A woman discovers a disaster inside a burger sandwich

A woman in Bolivia had the shock of her life when she bit a hamburger at a fast food restaurant, only to find herself chewing on what turned out to be the remains of a human finger.

Stephanie Benitez went to one of her favorite spots, a hot burger shop in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in the Bolivian department of the same name - on the evening of September 12 for a snack.

However, she said that when she was nibbling on the sandwich, she inadvertently bit off a severed finger, and police later confirmed that an employee had lost a finger while cutting the meat.

Sharing the horror on Facebook, Benitez wrote: "At the moment of eating, I am chewing a finger."

She also posted pictures of the finger, along with videos of her waiting to speak to a company representative, who told her, "Please tell me what you want and we'll give it to you."

In the footage, a hot burger representative can also be heard explaining that burgers arriving at the store are prepackaged.

They also told Benitez that "nothing like this has ever happened to us."

In one video about the catastrophic incident, which has been viewed more than 60,000 times, Benitez says, "Here we are at a great hot burger restaurant where a finger ended up in my burger."

"I'll post a picture of the finger right away."

Benitez shared photos of her unexpectedly horrific meal - the top of the cut-out figure being seen hanging on the side of her plate after she apparently took a bite out of the burger.

Benitez said the store representative offered to close the restaurant while she was still there, but claimed they then "continued to serve customers as if nothing had happened."

After her post went viral on social media, a company spokesperson said it was an "unfortunate accident" and explained that a worker had lost part of his index finger while preparing the meat.

Edson Clore, director of the Bolivian police's crime-fighting force, confirmed to local media that one of the company's employees lost part of a finger at work.

The authorities decided to temporarily close the branch and impose a fine on the company.
