September 16, 2021 At least 50 pro-government rebels and soldiers, including a senior officer, were killed in the clashes that took place in the last hours in central Yemen: military sources told the AFP agency. "A colonel and 19 other loyalists have been killed in the last 24 hours in fighting against Houthi rebels in the Al-Bayda district," a government military official said, confirming the deaths of at least 30 rebels.

Deaths that are added to the other 80 fighters killed during the advance of the Houthis towards the city of Marib. Colonel Yahiya al-Hatemi, head of the Yemen army media, had thus quantified the casualties after the Arab coalition's area response.

In recent weeks, the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have seen some successes in the province and are intent on taking control of the strategic northern city of Marib. Government forces are supported on the ground by a military coalition led by Saudi Arabia, Iran's great regional rival.

A drone loaded with explosives shot down in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi air defense intercepted and shot down a drone loaded with explosives launched in the direction of Abha International Airport. This was reported by al-Arabiya citing the Arab military coalition led by Riyadh points the finger at the Houthis of neighboring Yemen. On August 31, the same TV reported the injuries of eight airport staff after the coalition intercepted and destroyed a drone launched in the direction of the airport following another similar attack. The drone was headed for KhamisMushait, in the south of the kingdom, a few days away from another previously intercepted drone.
