• Operation Internal Affairs detains the entire group of narcotics from the Police in Mérida in an anti-drug operation

The Police and the Civil Guard have carried out an important operation against drug trafficking in which agents of both bodies linked to the fight against organized crime have been arrested.

According to police sources, the detainees could be linked to smuggling and drug trafficking schemes.

The operation, which is still open, already has a score of arrests. According to these sources, the investigators have detained the entire group of narcotics from

Mérida

(

Badajoz

), including the inspector who is in charge of the troops. But also, in addition to these five policemen, two civil guards have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the plot. And new arrests of agents are not ruled out.

According to sources in the investigation, the detained agents will be accused of more than twenty crimes. They allegedly not only trafficked in the hashish of this organization for which they worked, but also acted against "competition networks". «The most striking thing is the impunity with which they thought they were acting. They didn't go to great lengths to hide their extra income. Some of them even showed their powers, "as the most vulgar of drug traffickers," say sources, who detected how the detainees lived beyond their means.

Money and drugs were seized in their homes, as well as material "of dubious origin, probably robbery or extortion." It is not ruled out that the agents involved have also accessed the deposits of police material involved in operations. "We are talking about the group of narcotics", emphasize the experts.

The actions have been carried out by the

Internal Affairs Unit

of the Police and the

Central Operational Unit

of the Civil Guard. The heads of these units traveled to Mérida to follow all the actions at street level. “The operation was very delicate due to the alleged involvement of specialists in the fight against organized crime. They know the research methods. They know how to detect follow-ups. They know how the State Security Forces work and investigate. Investigations on researchers are the most complicated ", point out sources close to the action.

For almost a year, members of the Internal Affairs unit have been on the ground, with a base of operations far from Mérida to avoid detection.

"It was not easy.

The monitoring and control areas were small and with little public.

Technology has been essential to bring the actions to fruition ».

To launch the operation, the Police have resorted to intervention units due to the large number of arrests that had to be made.

The detainees have been transferred to

Almendralejo

to prevent their own colleagues from Mérida from guarding them.

"In this way we avoid situations of contamination and risk of data leaks", point out these sources.

During the performance, both the Police and the Civil Guard have carried out numerous searches in neighborhoods of the capital of Extremadura, more than twenty.

The proceedings are under summary secrecy.

According to the Police, the detainees were part of a complex criminal network settled in the province of Badajoz made up of several organizations that interacted with each other and allegedly dedicated to the cultivation, processing, manipulation and subsequent distribution of marijuana in the province of Badajoz.

The researchers have located and dismantled four

indoor

marijuana

plantations

with a total of more than 3,000 plants, and a large number of tools have been intervened for their installation, as well as vehicles.
