With “Dune”, “After Love” and “Paw Patrol” the e-cinemas at Frankfurter Hauptwache will reopen on Thursday as one of the last cinemas in the region.

Almost the full cinema program will be available again from October: On October 11th, the cinema and catering operations will also start again in the Orfeos Erben arthouse cinema on Hamburger Allee.

The Jaeger family, which owns the e-cinemas and their property, decided to close the pandemic for a longer period and have not opened their business since March 18, 2020.

During this time, Gabriele Jaeger, managing director of Prof. K. Jaeger Filmtheaterbetriebe, parted ways with the Eldorado, Frankfurt's oldest cinema still in use on Schäfergasse, after 47 years.

With this step, the operation of the e-cinemas, which has been running since 1952 and is the "matter of the heart" of the family company, should be preserved, it was said at the time.

The Eldorado is now operated by Christopher Busch, the owner of the Arthouse-Kinos Frankfurt, in association with the houses Harmonie and Cinema.

3-G rules in the cinema

In recent years, Gabriele Jaeger, succeeding the legendary Frankfurt cinema entrepreneur Lieselotte Jaeger, renovated the e-cinemas and operated them with a focus on family cinemas, so the program is now to be continued. For the time being, operations will only be resumed in the four largest halls, the company said, and the 3G rules apply. The popular “Sneak Previews” will be available again in the cinemas at Hauptwache from September 22nd.

In the meantime, the Orfeos Erben, which will have been closed for the longest of all Frankfurt film theaters, has given itself a new concept: Under the management of Betsy Hermsen, the combination of cinema and restaurant is to reopen on October 11th. The offer of the art house cinema will be reduced, there will only be cinemas from Thursday to Sunday. With “Orfeos Opendoors” there will be the opportunity to watch short film programs put together by director Antje Witte in addition to events in the cinema, and the “Frankfurt, Main Frankfurt” series will also become a platform for local institutions. The restaurant is also setting new accents in the kitchen; more “low-carb” dishes and vegan dishes have been announced on the menu.

The cinema is also used as a post-production room for sound and color matching by the Fundemental company, whose co-founder Andreas Lucas is also one of the operators of the Orfeos heirs. In the future it will also be represented with offers, such as a “Fundemental Academy”.
