From the morning of 17 August and 24 hours onwards, Gävle received 162 millimeters of rain.

Since SMHI began its measurements in the 19th century, only five occasions have measured higher precipitation.

The consequences were catastrophic in many places.

In total, the insurance companies have received more than 7,000 reported claims.

The compensation for the damages in Gävleborg and Dalarna is close to half a billion kronor (471,467,020 kronor), according to calculations from the industry organization Svensk Försäkring.
