CNN reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden will resettle more than 60,000 Afghan refugees in the United States in the coming weeks.

The network quoted an official in the Ministry of Defense as saying that eight US military bases have turned into small cities in order to accommodate them.

She stated that the evacuated Afghan citizens will undergo medical examinations and receive Corona vaccines before being transferred to various regions in the United States.

A senior US official suggested that the Afghans would stay at the military bases for two weeks, although this could extend beyond their medical examinations and obtaining work permits, among others.

The eight military bases used to house Afghan refugees accommodate up to 50,000 refugees, and the facilities consist of housing either in barracks or solid tents, as well as cafes that serve daily meals, recreational spaces and medical clinics.

The Biden administration expects the arrival of 65,000 Afghan refugees by the end of September, and about 30,000 refugees are expected to arrive in the next 12 months, an abnormal number of arrivals, compared to the past four years when the number of admissions was about 2,000 people per month.

CNN indicated that the Biden administration requested $6.4 billion in additional funds from Congress this month to enhance capabilities and provide assistance to Afghans who participated with the United States during the war in Afghanistan.

To manage efforts in this regard, Biden appointed former Delaware Governor Jack Markle to take over this task, as he established an office in the Executive Office Building in the White House, according to senior administration officials, and officials confirmed that Biden was briefed on information about the resettlement of Afghans on a regular basis.
