The wild boar shelter is in its infancy and currently has only two dedicated hunters.

- I hope we can become a gang that can be helped to help the farmers who have problems, says Mattias Jansson.

Welcome by the union

The Strängnäs hunters 'initiative is welcomed by the Swedish Hunters' Association, which since 2019 has had the wild boar help itself.

- We are positive that more people want to help and encourage greater cooperation between hunters and farmers, says hunting management consultant Per Zakariasson at the Swedish Hunters' Association.

Great damages

According to information from the Swedish Board of Agriculture, approximately eight percent of the expected harvest in Sörmland 2020 was destroyed, which corresponds to a loss of close to 30,000 tonnes of grain.

The wild boars are among the animals that do the most damage in the county.

The problems with wild boar have increased over the years.

- The wild boars increase threefold, it goes extremely fast for their population, says Jörgen Everklint.

Difficult to catch up

- Only in the beginning it was great fun, everyone wanted pigs.

But now, what a lot of pigs we have.

They can have up to two litters per year and it is difficult to have time to shoot off the trunk, says Mattias Jansson.
