Iran says talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency are "constructive"

Xinhua News Agency, Tehran, September 12 (Reporter Wang Shoubao Gao Wencheng) Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Chairman Mohamed Islami said after a meeting with the visiting International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General Rafael Grossi in the capital Tehran on the 12th. The talks between the two parties were "constructive."

Islami said at a joint press conference held after the talks that Grossi came to Tehran at the invitation of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization and the two sides had a good and constructive talk.

The purpose of the talks is to create opportunities for expanded interaction and cooperation within the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency's rules.

All issues between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency are technical, and "political issues have no place in the relationship between the two sides."

Islami said that the two sides decided that experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency will go to Iran to replace the memory cards of the monitoring equipment installed by the agency in Iran’s nuclear facilities and perform necessary technical maintenance for these equipment.

The memory card will be sealed in Iran as usual.

Grossi said that the two sides discussed technical issues.

The International Atomic Energy Agency and Iran must work together to expand cooperation.

According to a joint statement issued after the meeting, the two sides emphasized the importance of cooperation and mutual trust, and the necessity of solving problems in a constructive and purely technological atmosphere.

Grossi arrived in Tehran late on the 11th to communicate with Iran before the IAEA Board of Governors meeting next week.

Islami said that Iran will participate in the meeting.

In February of this year, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency reached a temporary technical agreement for up to three months.

The agreement expired on May 22, and the Iranian side decided on May 24 to extend the agreement for one month.

According to the agreement, the International Atomic Energy Agency will install surveillance cameras in Iran’s nuclear facilities and continue its necessary verification and supervision activities. Iran will save some video surveillance data of nuclear facilities.

If the United States lifts its sanctions on Iran, Iran will hand over these surveillance data to the International Atomic Energy Agency.

On June 25, the International Atomic Energy Agency asked Iran to reply on whether to postpone the interim technical agreement again.
