Although it is difficult for filmmakers from both sides of the strait to get together because of the new crown epidemic, the 12th Cross-Strait Film Festival was held simultaneously in Beijing and Taipei.

During the Beijing show held at the China Film Archive from 2 to 11, five Taiwanese films represented by "Autumn Decision" were well received by the audience.

The Cross-Strait Film Exhibition is jointly organized by the China Film Foundation and the Taiwan Cross-Strait Film Exchange Committee. It was originally initiated by mainland director Li Qiankuan and Taiwan director Li Xing.

In August of this year, the two directors passed away one after another.

"Autumn Judgment" is the film directed by Li Xing in 1972, and this year it debuted on the mainland with a digitally restored version of 2020.

"Regardless of the storyline or the layout of the scene, this film amazes me. It has been a long time since I saw this kind of relatively high-quality film in the cinema." Recently, the audience Ms. Zuo told a reporter from China News Agency after watching the film. .

Sun Xianghui, director of the China Film Archive and director of the China Film Art Research Center, recently bought a movie ticket with 8 rows and 19 seats.

She said that August 19 was the day when Director Li Xing passed away, and she would keep this ticket as a memorial.

Before the movie started, Sun Xianghui introduced to the audience the long-standing relationship between Li Xing and the mainland film industry: In 2009, Li Xing became the first "honorary librarian" of the China Film Archive. Since then, he has led delegations to the archive to hold personal works three times. Retrospective exhibitions, participation in seminars, and all 22 film materials with copyrights shall be delivered to the archive for permanent preservation.

Shadan, the program planner of the China Film Archive, told reporters that Li Xing's contribution to cross-strait film exchanges can be traced back to the 1990s.

According to data, as early as 1990, Li Xing led Taiwanese filmmakers to Beijing to participate in seminars.

"Li Xing's life's energy has been spent on the intercommunication and exchange of films on both sides of the strait. His donation to the Film Archive can be said to allow his most beloved work to'return to the roots'." Sha Dan believes, Today's Chinese-language movies have largely benefited from the pioneering of the older generation of filmmakers such as Li Xing.

"'I want to volunteer for Chinese films' is what director Li Xing often said." Zhang Lan, director of the project department of the China Film Foundation, recalled to reporters that Li Xing paid special attention to supporting young filmmakers, and at previous cross-strait film exhibitions Li Xingchang led young Taiwanese filmmakers to the mainland and encouraged them to "learn more about the mainland film market and cooperate with mainland professionals."

The Mainland Film Festival of the Cross-Strait Film Festival opened in Taipei on the 4th. The films on display include five mainland films including "Northeast Tiger", which won the best film of the Shanghai Film Festival.

The show in Taipei was spectacular.

Zhang Lan introduced to reporters that due to the need for epidemic prevention, only 50% of the movie tickets are sold in the screening theaters. Even so, the tickets are almost sold out.

Recently, Taiwan’s senior film producer Ye Rufen said in an online symposium on “New Trends in Cross-Strait Films in the Post-Pandemic Era” that although director Li Xing, one of the sponsors of the Cross-Strait Film Festival, has passed away, he will carry this up with other industry figures. Share responsibilities and expectations, and promote more communication and exchanges between the two sides of the strait film.

Since participating in the first film festival, Zhang Lan has been deeply touched by this. "This event has not been easy since it was held in 2009. Even if it is subtracted and overcome many difficulties, it must be continued."

Shadan said, "Through the cross-strait film exhibition, mainland audiences can learn about the life and social status of Taiwanese people. I hope this window will remain."

Li Xing once said to this year's cross-strait film exhibition: "The new crown epidemic is still severe, and filmmakers on both sides of the strait cannot conduct physical exchanges. However, film screenings in Taipei and Beijing are still an important channel to enhance understanding of each other's markets and industry development trends. "(over)
