The Customs Inspection Sector at Dubai Customs thwarted an attempt to smuggle 64 live “Free Falcon” birds, in an attempt to bring them into the country’s territory through the Hatta border port, which is in violation of the law regulating and controlling international trade in endangered animals and plants and the Veterinary Quarantine Law, in force in Dubai. The details of the incident are due to the suspicion of an inspector during the work shift at the Hatta Customs Center in a vegetable truck, so he inspected it after noticing concern about the truck driver, to find a number of live falcons of the “Free Hawk” type, which were hidden in the front of the truck under the vegetables, and covered with leaves of vegetables. And some wooden boards, and the free falcon is known for its skill in hunting birds, and after the seizure was released, the falcons were handed over to the “Veterinary Quarantine” department of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment at the Hatta border post, to be dealt with in accordance with international agreements and treaties regarding them.

The department is working to raise the level of efficiency of the inspectors and subject them to rehabilitation and training programs on smuggling methods, in addition to circulating lists of endangered animals to identify them and benefit from them in the seizure operations, as 44 various seizures were recorded during the first half of this year in the Hatta Center.

The Senior Director of the Hatta Customs Center, Hamad Kajour, explained that the Hatta Customs Center deals daily with 150 trucks loaded with goods, as the number of trucks that the center dealt with reached 23,892 trucks during the first half of this year.
