This is reported by TASS with reference to the National Defense Control Center of Russia.

It is clarified that the plane was lifted into the air after Russian airspace control over the sea area detected an air target approaching the Russian state border.

“To identify the air target and prevent violation of the state border of Russia, a MiG-31 fighter was raised from the air defense forces of the Northern Fleet on duty.

The crew of the Russian fighter identified the air target as a Norion Air Force P-3C Orion patrol aircraft and escorted it over the Barents Sea, ”the center noted.

It is clarified that no violation of the Russian state border was allowed.

In July, it was reported that a Russian Su-27 fighter was on its way to intercept a German Air Force aircraft and escorted it over the Baltic Sea.
