Brest, defending French champion and finalist in the last Women's Handball Champions League, was beaten on the first day of C1 on Saturday 26-24 by Rostov, one of the favorites for the title.

Already defeated in Bourg-de-Péage on Wednesday at the opening of the championship, the Brestoises were up to five goals behind the Russians in the first period and their two French Olympic champions, Béatrice Edwige and Grâce Zaadi.

Returning from the locker room, Brest had twice a disbursement of six goals, before making a close in the last ten minutes, insufficient to win the first victory of the season.

The Bretons welcome Wednesday Mérignac for the second day of the Women's League, then the Swedes of Esbjerg on Saturday in C1.
