A Chinese serial killer who killed seven people has been sentenced to death in the first trial after 20 years of fugitive life.

On the 9th local time, foreign media, including Peng Pai Shinwon, reported that Lao Longzhi, a 47-year-old woman charged with murdering a total of 7 people, including a 3-year-old girl, between 1996 and 1999 was sentenced to death in the first trial.

Lao Longzhi, who lived in hiding for 20 years after a series of crimes, was charged with kidnapping, robbing, and murdering a total of 7 people in Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces in China from 1996 to 1999 with his then-boyfriend Pa Zhiying. was brought to trial.

At the trial, Lao Longzhi cried all the time and complained of injustice, saying, "I was forced to participate in the crime by my boyfriend's coercion and had no intention of killing me." When Lao Longzhi searched for and lure a target at an entertainment establishment, Pa Zhiying violently kidnapped him and demanded a ransom from his family.

Their serial killings came to an end in July 1999 when Pazying, who went to collect the ransom for the victims, was arrested by the police. In the same year, Pa Zhiying was sentenced to death and executed, but Lao Longzhi was able to escape the investigation due to Fa Zhiying's false statements. After that, he worked in an entertainment establishment using a fake ID and hid for more than 20 years before being arrested by the public at a shopping mall in November 2019 when his identity was revealed by AI facial recognition technology.

At the trial, Lao Longzhi said, "I couldn't get out of my boyfriend's grasp at the time, and whenever I ran away, he somehow found me and beat me and tortured me. I didn't want to kill anyone." The court rejected his argument.

The court accepted the prosecution's argument that "although he confessed to the crime, but the consequences of the crime were very serious. The means of the crime were also very cruel and the purpose was also vicious, so a lenient punishment should not be imposed" and sentenced Lao Longz to death. He also ordered the removal of all political rights from him and the confiscation of all his property.

Lao Longzhi wept in court when the death sentence was announced, and Lao Longzhi's family said after the sentence that they "plan to appeal as he requested."
