Israel Six Islamic Jihad and Fatah prisoners flee an Israeli jail
The extensive operation of the Israeli security organizations in search of the five members of the armed wing of
Islamic Jihad
and one of
Al Fatah
who managed to escape from a high security prison last Monday has borne its first fruits. Shortly before ten o'clock this Friday night and after several days of harsh criticism for the historical negligence of the Penitentiary Service, several agents of the Police and the internal secret service (
Shabak
) have located and detained two of the escapees, members of the Palestinian group Jihad, in the city of
Nazareth
, in northern
Israel
.
The two Palestinians, who were serving life sentences for murder and belonging to a terrorist gang in the
Gilboa
high-security prison
, did not put up much resistance.
Islamic Jihad leaders warned this week with "harsh reprisals" if their escaped troops - considered "heroes" on the Palestinian street - were detained or killed.
