The Tesla Model S Plaid holds the new speed record for a production electric vehicle on the legendary Nürburgring circuit.

The car of the American manufacturer has just completed the tour of the German track, which has no less than 75 turns over a distance of more than 20 km, in just under 7 minutes and 31 seconds.

This represents an average of more than 166 km / h, reports

Tesla's electric car thus beats the previous record held by the Porsche Taycan of 12 seconds.

Elon Musk did not fail to announce the feat on Twitter.

“The Tesla Model S Plaid just broke the record for a production electric car at the Nürburgring.

It was not modified at all, and came directly from the factory, ”he wrote.

Another record attempt already planned

With this time, the Tesla model not only beats electric models but also thermal cars, typical sports.

Its stopwatch would indeed approach the lap times achieved by a Porsche 911 Turbo S (997) or a Ferrari 458 Italia.

A video of the Tesla Model S Plaid feat was posted on YouTube.

According to the manufacturer, the record could however be lowered and approach 7 minutes and 5 seconds by making a few modifications.

In another post, Elon Musk indicates that another record attempt will be made with an improved version of the Plaid.

It will be fitted with carbon brakes, race-friendly tires and additional aerodynamic elements.

If Elon Musk claims the Tesla Model S Plaid is the fastest production car in the world, it may have some competition with the Rimac Nevera.

This all-electric car with a hypercar profile beat the Tesla in the standing start exercise.

All categories combined, the Tesla Model S Plaid is still far from the absolute record of the German circuit.

This is held by the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo in 5 minutes 19 seconds and 546 hundredths.
