Do you know what the first international summit Xi Jinping attended after assuming the presidency?
The answer is: the BRICS leaders' meeting.
From the five countries of the four continents of the world-Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, the first letter of the English name is "BRICS", which happens to be similar to the English word "brick", so it is called the BRICS country.
The five countries take turns to hold a meeting every year.
On September 9 this year, President Xi attended this important summit for the 9th consecutive year.
The "weight" of the BRICS:
A community of action not to be ignored
Those with ambitions do not take mountains and seas as far away.
In 2006, the BRICS countries held their first foreign ministers' meeting during the UN General Assembly, which conceptualized an action and opened the prelude to BRICS cooperation.

The theme of this year's meeting is "BRIC 15th Anniversary: Carrying out BRICS Cooperation to Promote Continuation, Consolidation and Consensus".

This piece of "BRIC" was originally relatively large: the BRIC countries accounted for 26.46% of the total area of the world's territory, and their population accounted for 41.87% of the world's total population.
With the passage of time, the weight of the "bricks" has become heavier and the fineness has become more and more sufficient.
In his speech at this meeting, President Xi Jinping pointed out that the BRICS countries have become an important force that cannot be ignored on the international stage.
Taking economy and trade as an example, it is estimated that in 2020 the total economic output of the five countries will account for about 24.42% of the world's total, and the total trade volume will account for 16.98% of the world's total.
Of course it's not just about economy and trade.
In 2016, President Xi Jinping said at the eighth meeting of BRICS leaders, “BRICS countries share a common destiny, and they are not only a community of closely related interests, but also a community of actions that move forward hand in hand.”
After experiencing the test of the epidemic, this "brick" has been "ballasted" for the entire world.
During the meeting this year, President Xi said, “Facts have proved that no matter what difficulties we encounter, as long as we think in one place and work hard in one place, BRICS cooperation can move forward steadily.”
The "power" of the BRICS:
Take the political responsibility
This sentence was included in the "New Delhi Declaration" adopted at this meeting.
"We recognize that in an interconnected globalized world, everyone can be safe only if everyone is safe."
The sudden onset of the new crown pneumonia epidemic gave people a more real understanding: "The infinite distance, countless people, are related to me."
During this meeting, President Xi Jinping put forward a five-point proposal. The first two points are related to the epidemic that is still raging around the world: one is to persist in helping each other in the same boat and strengthen public health cooperation; the second is to maintain fairness and accessibility and strengthen international vaccine cooperation.
President Xi said: "We have to take up our due political responsibility!"
In November last year, due to the epidemic, the leaders of the BRICS countries had their first "cloud meeting".
In his speech last year, President Xi proposed a package plan for cooperation in the fight against the epidemic, including actively considering the provision of vaccines to the BRICS countries in need, promoting the construction of the BRICS vaccine research and development center, and proposing the five countries to hold traditional medicine seminars.
In less than a year, these measures have been officially implemented, or are being pushed forward in full swing.
In his speech this year, President Xi released a set of statistics: Up to now, China has provided more than 1 billion doses of vaccines and stock solutions to more than 100 countries and international organizations, and will strive to provide 2 billion doses of vaccines throughout the year.
He solemnly announced that, on the basis of donating 100 million US dollars to the "New Crown Vaccine Implementation Plan", China will donate another 100 million doses of vaccine to developing countries during the year.
Only by building a community of health can we protect everyone's safety.
The leaders of the five countries reached a consensus at this meeting: they will continue to promote global unity in the fight against the epidemic, oppose the politicization of virus traceability, and are willing to strengthen public health and vaccine cooperation, and promote equitable access to vaccines.

"Quality" of BRICS:
Moving towards higher quality
At the meeting on September 9, President Xi Jinping said: "Under the current situation, we must strengthen our convictions, strengthen unity, and promote BRICS practical cooperation towards higher quality."
High-quality development is not only the theme of China's economic development, but also the direction of BRICS practical cooperation.
Looking back at the 15 years of BRICS, from the establishment of a new development bank, emergency reserves, and the development of partnerships for the new industrial revolution, to the establishment of the "BRIC+" cooperation concept, practical cooperation has already yielded fruitful results.
At the meeting last year, President Xi Jinping announced that he would establish an innovation base for the BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership in Xiamen, Fujian.
At this meeting, President Xi said that the Xiamen Innovation Base has been officially opened, and talent training, think tank seminars, and industrial innovation competitions have been held.
This is China's speed, but also China's quality.
The third proposal put forward by President Xi Jinping during the meeting was to "persist in mutual benefit and win-win results and strengthen economic cooperation."
He focused on building an "upgraded version" of economic cooperation: We welcome the substantial progress made by the expansion of the New Development Bank, the implementation of the "BRICS Economic Partnership Strategy 2025", and the Industrial Internet and Digital Manufacturing Development Forum will be held next year.·· ···
In September 2017, President Xi pointed out at the meeting of BRICS leaders in Xiamen: "Pragmatic cooperation is the foundation of BRICS cooperation."
At the meeting this year, he emphasized, “On the road of advancing BRICS cooperation, we must adapt to the changes of the times and keep pace with the times. The focus of cooperation in various fields should be more prominent, more pragmatic, and effective. We must develop in accordance with the situation. To meet actual needs, adjust and improve the content and methods of cooperation on the basis of consensus."
Behind pragmatism is the quality of pragmatism.
The "capacity" of the BRICS:
Inclusiveness, fairness, resilience, continuity, mutual learning
The "New Delhi Declaration" adopted at this meeting clearly sent this message: "The new crown epidemic has made us more convinced that effective and representative multilateralism is essential for strengthening resilience to current and future global challenges, enhancing people’s well-being, and realizing the planet’s development. A sustainable future is essential."
Enhancing political mutual trust, deepening economic and trade cooperation, and intensifying people-to-people and cultural exchanges are the "three-wheel drive" of BRICS cooperation.
The fourth and fifth proposals of President Xi Jinping on the day were: uphold fairness and justice, strengthen political and security cooperation; uphold mutual learning and mutual learning, and strengthen cultural exchanges and cooperation.
Be more tolerant, fairer, more resilient, more sustainable, and learn from each other. This is the BRICS approach.

Next year, China will take over as the presidency of the BRICS countries and host the 14th meeting of the leaders of the BRICS countries.
