10 September 2021The older brother of former Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh, Rohullah Azizi Saleh, "was captured and executed by the Taliban" after the conquest of the Panshir Valley as the man left the region for Kabul.

The Indian media reported this, citing family sources, according to which the body has not yet been returned: the body "must rot", the Taliban said. Rohullah Azizi Saleh was reportedly tortured to death.

News of the capture and killing was confirmed to the Russian agency Ria Novosti by resistance sources in Panshir.

Amrullah Saleh had become one of the leaders of the anti-Taliban opposition forces in the Panjshir Valley. The news of the killing was confirmed by his nephew and comes a few days after the Taliban forces took control of the last province that offered resistance.

"They executed my uncle," Ebadullah Saleh said in a message sent to Reuters news agency. "They killed him yesterday and they didn't let us bury him. They kept saying his body had to rot."

The information service of the Taliban in Alemarah, on the other hand, claims that Rohullah Azizi Saleh was killed during the fighting in Panshir.

The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, which brings together opposition forces loyal to local leader Ahmad Massoud, has pledged to continue to oppose the Taliban even after the fall of the provincial capital of Panshir, Bazarak.
