The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case into the death of an elderly woman and her granddaughter in the southeast of Moscow.

“On behalf of the head of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee in Moscow, Andrey Strizhov, according to information posted in the media about the poisoning of a family in the south-east of Moscow, a criminal case was initiated on the grounds of a crime under Art.

238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of a person by negligence").

A complex of investigative actions is being carried out aimed at clarifying all the circumstances of the incident.

Epidemiological investigation

According to media reports, on September 8, a family of four bought a watermelon at the Magnit store on Sovkhoznaya Street.

The next morning, three - 61-year-old Valentina Nikolaevna, her daughter 38-year-old Elena and granddaughter 15-year-old Polina - felt unwell and called an ambulance.

The Baza Telegram channel reports that doctors did not hospitalize them, attributing everything to ordinary food poisoning.

The women were taken to the hospital only in the evening, when the condition of the granddaughter and grandmother was already critical.

As a result, the grandmother and granddaughter died, and the mother is in intensive care in a serious condition.

At the same time, information appeared in Telegram channels that multiple organ failure was the cause of Polina's death.

Anton Karpov, head of the department for external communications of the retail chain Magnit, told RT that the company initiated an internal investigation.

“Just last week we completed a planned quality check of all batches of watermelons presented in the Moscow region,” Karpov comments.

- The batch of watermelons presented in the store on Sovkhoznaya has been identified.

It was tested in a certified government laboratory, which did not reveal any deviations in food safety standards.

Now this batch is withdrawn from sale pending clarification of the circumstances of the incident.

According to them, they constantly buy food at the Magnit store, located near Sovkhoznaya Street.

Investigative actions are also underway in the house where the victims lived.
