It was on Thursday that the top politician left the news of his resignation in a post on Facebook.

Party colleague Christian Orsing (M) says that he took the message with mixed feelings.

- It's quite understandable.

He has been on record for a long time on this assignment, no one else has been re-elected three times to that position in Helsingborg.

Member of Parliament Ulrika Heindorff (M) became involved in the Moderates in 2007 when she moved to Helsingborg.

- I was immediately struck by Peter Danielsson's enormous drive and energy, and it has held up ever since.

He has meant a great deal to the moderates and to Helsingborg.

At the same time, I understand and respect his decision to take on new challenges after four terms as chairman of the municipal board, she says.

"Tough job to have for so long"

Jan Björklund (S), opposition councilor in Helsingborg, describes the departure as surprising and not entirely expected.

- But he has been sitting for 15 years and it is an extremely tough job to have for so long.

I fully understand that he chooses to step down and do something else and wish him luck in that, he says.
