• The conviction of the former spokesperson for Génération Identitaire was pronounced for “public insults”.

  • Justice accuses Thaïs d'Escufon of videos posted after an anti-migrant operation carried out in the Pyrenees by the extreme right-wing group.

  • This is the first conviction of the Toulouse student.

At 22, Thaïs d'Escufon, the former spokesperson for Génération Identitaire, has just opened his criminal record.

The correctional court of Saint-Gaudens, in Haute-Garonne, has just sentenced her to two months suspended prison sentence and a 3,000 euros fine for "public insults".

This decision constitutes the epilogue of the anti-migrant operation organized on January 19, 2021 by the extreme right-wing group, now dissolved, in the Pyrenees.

The young activists had set up patrols at the Col du Portillon to secure the border, implying that the migrants were a danger.

It is for having disseminated videos of this initiative, which the public prosecutor of Saint-Gaudens, Christophe Amunzateguy, considers that they had "stigmatized" the migrants.

Another convicted activist

Jérémie Piano, another member of Generation Identity, judged him for "provocation to racial hatred" for his own YouTube videos, received the same penalty as his comrade.

During the hearing on June 16, Pierre-Vincent Lambert, the lawyer for the two activists, recalled that the Pyrenean operation followed "the attack which cost Samuel Paty the life" and that of "the basilica. Notre-Dame de l'Assomption in Nice ”.

"The sentence which was required against me [four months suspended sentence] was completely delusional, the sentence is not much less", declared this Thursday Thais of Escufon.

The Toulouse student also denounces a "very serious attack on freedom of expression" aimed "at serving as an example to criminalize anti-immigration discourse".

For its part, SOS Racisme, civil party in the trial, “welcomed” this conviction.
