The man, who was previously a well-known politician in northern Kalmar, was convicted in the district court in June for several rapes and aggravated assault on a child.

According to the indictment, these crimes have been going on since the girl went to middle school.

But now the Court of Appeal is changing the verdict - and he is completely acquitted of the accusations of rape and sexual abuse of children.

The evidence consisted mainly of the plaintiff's own story, and the court considers that there is not enough other evidence.

"The investigation is not robust enough for the evidentiary requirement to be considered fulfilled," it says in the judgment.

Violation of the peace

On the other hand, the court upholds the district court's judgment with regard to other headings, including gross breach of the peace.

He has sexually harassed the girl on a large number of occasions.

He was also convicted of buying sexual services, drug offenses and unlawful threats.

The latter crime was directed at a party colleague.

The man is sentenced to one year and two months in prison.
