According to a media report, the number of deportations has increased again after an initially significant decline in the corona pandemic.

In the first six months of this year, 5688 people were deported from Germany, compared to 4616 in the first half of 2020, the newspapers of the Funke media group reported on Friday, citing a response from the Federal Ministry of the Interior to a request from the left-wing parliamentary group.

People were returned to Georgia (541), Albania (456), Serbia (300) and Pakistan (241) in particular.

According to the federal government, the authorities deported 140 people to Afghanistan in the first half of the year.

Among the almost 6,000 deported were 904 minors and 760 women.

The number of deportations had fallen massively with the start of the corona pandemic in 2020, it said.

Between 2015 and 2019, between 20,000 and 25,000 people were sent back from Germany to their countries of origin or other EU countries.

With the pandemic, many states had stopped air traffic and closed borders.

This also had an impact on the deportations from Germany.

The interior expert of the left-wing parliamentary group, Ulla Jelpke, told the Funke newspapers that the federal and state governments would now “move more people out of the country” again “regardless of the concerns of those affected”.
