Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, and South Korea from the 10th.

Of these, Vietnam and Singapore are visited by high-ranking US government officials one after another, so it seems that China is also aiming to hit the wedge by dispatching Foreign Minister Wang.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, and South Korea from the 10th to the 15th.

Of these, in Vietnam, he will meet with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, in Singapore, he will meet with Foreign Ministers, and in South Korea, he will exchange opinions with Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong on issues such as the Korean Peninsula and international issues.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China has stated that the purpose of this visit is "to protect multilateralism and international justice together with the four countries, and to focus on peace and stability in the region and the world."

Of these four countries, Vietnam and Singapore have just been visited by US Secretary of Defense Austin and Vice President Harris in July and last month.

It seems that China is also aiming to send a foreign minister to a country visited by senior US government officials to wedge it and counter the movement of the Byden administration, which can be said to be a siege of China.

Vietnam and Singapore Aware of “balance”

Vietnam and Singapore are poised to stand in a tug-of-war situation between the United States and China and face each other while being aware of the balance.

Of these, Vietnam, which borders China, attaches great importance to its relationship with China, which is also its largest trading partner, and is in a position to aim for friendly development.

On the other hand, because it has a sovereignty dispute in the South China Sea, it is also showing one aspect of restraining China by strengthening security cooperation with the United States and Japan.

Vietnam continues to steer carefully without taking over one country in order to pursue national interests in terms of both economy and security while avoiding the situation where it becomes the center of the US-China conflict.

Meanwhile, Singapore has traditionally renewed a memorandum permitting the U.S. military to use domestic bases and extended it to 2035, as well as obtaining an agreement to train its state-of-the-art fighter aircraft in the United States. We attach great importance to defense cooperation with.

However, the amount of trade with China has already far exceeded the amount with the United States, and economic dependence is increasing.

For this reason, it also shows a certain distance from the movement of the Biden administration, which can be said to be the siege of China.

Both Vietnam and Singapore, which are facing these circumstances, would like to take advantage of this visit by Foreign Minister Wang Yi as an opportunity to balance relations between the United States and China.
