• Assembly Deputies of Vox leave the plenary session of Ceuta after a verbal confrontation with Juan Jesús Vivas

  • Courts The president of Vox in Ceuta, accused of an alleged crime of libel and slander

"The greatest damage that has been done to Ceuta in many years."

A new brawl in the Ceuta Assembly this Thursday has ended with the rejection of all parliamentary groups to Vox, a party to which they have kept silence and with which they have not debated after accusing their deputies of "bursting" the session.

Thus, the Popular Party, PSOE, Movement for Dignity and Citizenship (MDyC) and Caballas, after the crossing of reproaches between Ceutí president Juan Jesús Vivas, of the PP, and the spokesman of Vox, Carlos Verdejo, have chosen not respond to the "provocations" of the latter, who has accused the president of the autonomous city of "manipulator" and "liar" after Vivas denied a reply to Vox, which is why his deputies have left the Plenary Hall.

The controversy has come while a proposal was being debated to apply fiscal measures in order to lower the price of renting homes in Ceuta. In his turn to speak, Verdejo has accused the rest of the formations of "pro-Moroccans" for agreeing on measures to legalize homes in an irregular situation. "He comes here with a screen, wrapped in aggressiveness, in demagoguery, in a pamphlet, without respect for this institution or the people of Ceuta," Vivas responded to Verdejo's statement. After denying them the reply, the Vox deputies have left the room accusing the president of acting "like a dictator."

After returning to their seats, Vivas has asked the rest of the forces not to enter into a debate with Vox, a party that, it has said, tries to "set Ceuta on fire." The recriminations have continued, at that time, between Verdejo and the spokesperson of the MDyC, Fatima Hamed, who, in reference to some WhatsApp messages, has warned the representatives of Vox that they are going to "have to swallow moros until the end of the legislature "and asked for respect for his speech:" You have left the plenary session and have come back like a coward, with your tail between your legs and your head down, "Hamed has launched when the session, due to tension -" psychopath ", have come to respond from the Vox bench-, it has had to be paralyzed for a few minutes by order of the president.

Despite the silence that the rest of the forces have applied to the party's parliamentarians, sources from the Vox leadership emphasize that the party's position does not vary and that Carlos Verdejo, to whom a "sanitary cordon has been applied," is "maintaining the position "that Vox has" always defended "in the autonomous city, where it was the most voted force in the last general elections, in 2019.

It is not the first time that sparks fly in the Ceuta Assembly. The differences between PP and Vox in the autonomous city have grown in recent times. The massive influx of immigrants in May - Vivas accused Vox on Thursday of acting "against the interests of Ceuta and Spain" in the crisis, and Verdejo denounced that the president "whitewashed" the government's actions during those days - continues to be a point of debate between parties, but the turning point came at the end of July, when the Assembly declared, with the abstention of the popular, Santiago Abascal persona non grata at the request of MDyC. A fact that supposed the rupture of relations between PP and Vox at the national level when considering that those of Vivas were "necessary cooperators" of this appointment.

Shortly after, Vox presented an urgent proposal in the Ceuta Assembly to revoke this statement about the Vox leader.

A request that to this day still does not enter the order of the day, proof that, according to the party, the PP continues to "tighten the rope" in the autonomous city.
