Magnitude 7.1 earthquake strikes Mexico

An earthquake measuring about 7.1 on the Richter scale hit southeastern Mexico yesterday evening.

The National Seismological Observatory said the quake's epicenter was located 11 kilometers southeast of the coastal resort of Acapulco in the state of Guerrero and 400 kilometers south of the capital, Mexico City.

The earthquake caused a power outage in many parts of the city.

While there has been no information yet on human or material losses as a result of the earthquake.

According to the US Tsunami Warning System, a tsunami is likely to occur on the coast of Guerrero in the Pacific Ocean.
