The situation in Guinea is being examined this Wednesday by the heads of state of ECOWAS meeting in a virtual extraordinary summit, 72 hours after the coup d'état which overthrew President Alpha Condé in Conakry and sanctions were announced.

There has not yet been an official statement from ECOWAS, following this extraordinary summit, but according to the Burkinabé Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alpha Barry, Guinea is suspended from the bodies of the Economic Community of African States of Africa. the west. The regional organization also demands the immediate release of President Alpha Condé and has decided to send, as of tomorrow Thursday, a high-ranking delegation to Guinea.

From the opening of this virtual summit, the President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo had referred to a " 

clear violation

 " of the ECOWAS good governance charter and " 

an unfortunate and regrettable incident

 " to qualify

the coup d'état led by the special forces

, led by Colonel Mamady Doumbouya. As of Sunday, the ECOWAS had already condemned the seizure of power by the military, and the arrest of President Alpha Condé.

The heads of state of the region also spoke of the transition underway in Mali after sending a mission there, which ended on Tuesday and which expressed concern about the possibility of holding the elections on time.

Presidential and legislative elections are supposed to be held next February, 18 months after the August 2020 coup.

Following this putsch, ECOWAS also suspended the country and adopted essentially economic sanctions.
