A group of hikers aged 60 to 80 found themselves stuck by the rising tide on the Île des Hébidens, which extends the peninsula of Saint-Jacut-de-le-Mer (Côtes-d'Armor), Sunday.

They would have walked too long and found themselves stranded, reports France 3 Bretagne.

The emergency services, notified around 4 p.m., had to implement an important device to be able to bring the group back to dry land.

The intervention lasted three hours and mobilized firefighters and the coastal boat of the maritime gendarmerie of Saint-Malo.

Some people were also brought ashore by boaters.

A recurring problem due to a lack of anticipation

The firefighter on duty at the Côtes-d'Armor Operational Intervention and Rescue Center said he was “annoyed” by this type of intervention which could be avoided in advance.

And recalls that: "Whenever we are mobilized on these interventions, they are personnel not available for perhaps more serious interventions where there may be victims".

A call for vigilance, especially during the next high tides which will take place on September 8 and 9.
