- From the Social Democrats, we have decided to take a negative stance on the plans for wind power.

But when Vattenfall now has to adjust its application, we must make a new decision later, says municipal councilor Ulrika Hammarström (S).

Significantly fewer

The issue of wind power in Käymäjärvi should have been discussed in the municipal council on 11 October.

The decision had become absolutely decisive because the country's municipalities have a veto right when it comes to wind power establishments.

Instead, Vattenfall will now adjust its application so that the number of wind turbines in the village will be significantly less than the 58 that were included in the original plan.

Peter Stedt, communications manager for the Pajala projects, writes this in an email to SVT Norrbotten.

But he also writes that it is too early to state how large the reduction will be.

According to the company, the reason is, among other things, that technological development is rapid and that the turbines are becoming larger and more powerful.

In the adjusted application, the wind turbines will be a maximum of 250 meters high.

Promises broadband to the village

There have been protests from villagers in Käymäjärvi.

Has it affected Vattenfall?

"Throughout the history of the project, we have had a good and constructive dialogue with residents in the village and our ambition is that it will continue in the future," writes Peter Stedt and comes with a promise:

"If we build Käymävaara wind farm, we will ensure that there is adequate mobile coverage in the village and also pull fiber broadband to the village."
