Police and rescue services were alerted on Monday afternoon to the Båberg junction, just south of Vänersborg, after a serious traffic accident.
It was when a truck was about to turn onto road 44 that the collision occurred.
The driver of the car, a man in his 75s, died of his injuries.
The truck driver, a woman, must not have been physically injured in the accident.
The woman has been heard at the scene and both vehicles have been seized by the police.
- The accident will be investigated as causing another person's death and negligence in traffic, says Anna Göransson, the police's spokesperson.
The man's relatives are informed of the fatal accident.
