Israel isolated 10 prisoners on hunger strike, at a time when hundreds of administrative detainees threatened to take steps that might amount to a mass hunger strike.

Meanwhile, the United Nations called for the provision of security and safety for the children of Palestine.

The Prisoners Club stated in a statement that the occupation prisons administration singles out the striking prisoners and continues to isolate them and obstruct lawyers' visits to them.

He added that the occupation prisons administration recently transferred most of the striking prisoners who are in the cells of the Negev Prison (southern Israel) to the cells of Ashkelon Prison (center).

He explained that 10 prisoners are continuing their hunger strike in refusal of the administrative detention policy, amid great and escalating fears for their lives.

Administrative detention is imprisonment by an Israeli military order, alleging the existence of a security threat, without an indictment, and extends for 6 months, which can be extended.

According to the club’s statement, the prisoner, Salem Zaidat, from Bani Naim, east of Hebron (south), is the oldest striker, and has been on strike for 35 days.

The club held the occupation fully responsible for the lives of the striking prisoners.

The International Red Cross demanded that it take its real and serious role to follow up on the striking prisoners, and to reassure their families.

He also called on international human rights institutions, led by the United Nations, to seriously intervene to stop the policy of administrative detention.

In a separate statement, the club revealed extensive consultations between the administrative prisoners to formulate a struggle plan to confront the administrative detention policy.

The club expected the move to amount to a mass strike during the coming period, in addition to a boycott of the Israeli military courts before which they are being tried.

According to the Prisoners Club, the last collective hunger strike of administrative prisoners was in 2014 and lasted 62 days.

The number of administrative prisoners in the occupation prisons is about 550, out of about 4800 prisoners, according to the same source.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Lynne Hastings, said that the children of Palestine deserve safety and security, not just education.

In a statement, on the occasion of the resumption of the new school year for school students, she added, "1.2 million children are returning to their schools in Palestine... they deserve security, safety and hope."

Hastings added that children not only have the right to a safe education, but they should be given special protection under international human rights law given their own vulnerabilities.

It stated that since the beginning of 2021, it was reported that a total of 79 children were killed and 1,269 others were injured at the hands of Israeli forces.

And she continued, "67 children were killed in the Gaza Strip during the recent state of escalation (10-21 May), and another child was killed in June as a result of the explosive remnants of the war with Israel."

In the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the coordinator said that Israeli forces killed 11 children, and wounded 584 others, in addition to 24 injured by settlers.

The coordinator held Israel responsible for protecting children and teachers from harassment and violence perpetrated by settlers on their way to and from schools.
