"It's not easy, but right."

This is how it sounded when Stefan Löfven announced his impending resignation as party leader for the Social Democrats during his summer speech on 22 August.

The weeks that followed have been fraught with speculation about who will be appointed as the new party leader during the congress in November.

Now the Social Democrats in Värmland have decided who they want to see as a replacement.

Unanimous decision in the district

- A unanimous district board has decided to nominate Magdalena Andersson as the new party chairman, district chairman Åsa Johansson confirms to SVT.

According to Johansson, Sunday's decision must have been unanimous.

- We think she is a very competent and knowledgeable person with a strong ideological compass.

We are convinced that Magdalena Andersson will be able to become a confident leader not only for the Social Democrats but for the whole country, she continues.

Takes back in several S-districts

Districts such as Skåne, Halland and Skaraborg have already nominated Magdalena Andersson as their candidate - and now Värmland is following the same line.

Magdalena Andersson, 54, joined the Prime Minister's Office in 1996 as a political expert. In 2007 she became domestic policy adviser to the Social Democrats' latest female party chairman - Mona Sahlin - and since the party's election victory in 2014, she has been finance minister in Stefan Löfven's governments.

In the clip below, the initial reactions of the Värmland S-tops can be heard after Stefan Löfven's resignation.
