LR deputy Éric Ciotti, candidate for the right-wing primary, said on Sunday that he would vote for Eric Zemmour in the event of a duel against Emmanuel Macron in the second round of the presidential election, even if he does not "think" that the polemicist "could win this match".

"I would vote Eric Zemmour, very clearly", assured Éric Ciotti, questioned during the RTL / LCI / Le Figaro Grand Jury on his choice in the event of a Macron - Zemmour second round in April 2022. Éric Zemmour "today defends ideas that for the most part I share ", in particular" the observation of a decline of our country ", underlined the deputy LR.

As for the "convictions" of which Eric Zemmour was the subject, in particular a 10,000 euros fine for "provocation to racial hatred" and "public insults of a racist nature", they would go "far too far" according to Eric Ciotti.

But "we do not have the same history, the same affiliations", qualified the elected representative of the Alpes-Maritimes, recalling having "joined at 16" to the "Gaullist family".

"I don't think Eric Zemmour could win this match"

And "there are subjects on which I am not in phase" such as "his analysis on the place of women in society", he continued.

"The only candidate who can win this election, who can disturb the duel between Mr. Macron and Madame Le Pen, (...) is the candidate of the Republican right and I do not think that Eric Zemmour could win this match , I also say it very clearly ", affirmed Eric Ciotti.

He who had slipped a void ballot in the ballot box during the second round in 2017 between Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron also indicated that he "will reproduce (t) this vote" if the scenario were to repeat itself in 2022.

Éric Ciotti calls for "everyone's spirit of responsibility"

For the time being, there are five contenders for a possible primary (Éric Ciotti, Valérie Pécresse, Michel Barnier, Philippe Juvin, Denis Payre), to which we must add Xavier Bertrand, who did not wish to participate but applied to be the right-wing presidential candidate. "In the end, whatever the path taken, I am convinced that in a few weeks, at worst, in a few months, we will have a candidate from the Republican right", also declared Eric Ciotti, calling for "the spirit of responsibility of each ".

Eric Ciotti has also hammered home his desire to "destabilize" both the "trafficking" of drugs, by "very heavy judicial investigations", as the "consumers" themselves, by raising "to 1,000 euros" the fixed fine for any cannabis use. "We must destabilize consumption because otherwise, if we continue, the more there will be requests, the more there will be supply," argued the elected representative of the Alpes-Maritimes. In this context, Eric Ciotti also called for "diplomatic action" vis-à-vis Morocco, accused of maintaining "almost state production" in "the Rif region", in the north of the country. We must say "to our Moroccan friends, we can no longer tolerate that", because otherwise "we will have massive arrivals,on the other side we have massive consumption and today we have police officers who are exhausted and who cannot regulate that ", he pleaded.
