04 September 2021 "The European Union has shown, in the face of the pandemic and its economic and social consequences, an effective and timely reaction capacity". This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in the message sent to the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio.

"The actions taken, both in the field of vaccination campaigns and in support of social crises and economic recovery, confirm the goodness of the choices made in the direction of shared sovereignty at the continental level", declared Mattarella in the message sent to the CEO and managing partner of The european house - Ambrosetti Valerio De Molli.

"European integration makes it possible to play a critical mass at the international level on the economic level to the benefit of the European peoples. The public resources deployed are impressive, such as to create, with its innovation programs, a favorable framework for private investments that are expected to fuel an even more positive phase of relaunch. The forecasts, for Italy, look to GDP growth of 6% in 2021 and 4.4% in 2022, in fifth place among the G20 countries , with a double-digit increase in industrial production ", continues the head of state.

"The strong political will, which was at the origin of the choices proposed by the European Commission and supported by the approval of the European Parliament, made it possible to overcome the different sensitivities present in the Union and to create an unprecedented operational dimension which constitutes a real turning point ", the message continues.

"A dimension that must now find its place in the context of the Treaty which, after the reflection of the Conference on the future of Europe, will have to replace that of Lisbon", continues Mattarella, who among other things in his message calls for a "foreign and security policy common".

"It is a matter in which the EU has moved too timidly up to now and which, on the contrary, represents the natural continuation of that shared sovereignty also intended to guarantee European citizens the continuation of an experience of growth and progress that is not has equals - underlines Mattarella -. Europe cannot afford to be absent from scenarios and events whose consequences are reversed on the countries that make it up and from the definition of the rules governing international relations ".

"I send good wishes to the participants, with the hope that the protagonists of economic and financial life will know how to seize the opportunity to contribute to a phase of new consolidation of the European project", concludes the head of state.
