A group of women demonstrated on Saturday in the Afghan capital Kabul and demanded that women be given equal rights under the country's new Taliban regime.

"We Afghan women are no less valuable than other women," said protester Maryam Naib

The demonstration was stopped when Taliban soldiers ran into the crowd fired shots into the air, reports the news agency AP.

Also on Friday, women demonstrated in Kabul for participation in the incoming government, which is hoped to take a different line than during the reign of terror in 1996-2001, when women in principle had no rights at all.
