Environmental NGOs are mobilized after the announced lifting of the moratorium on forest exploitation.

This moratorium was decided in 2002. From now on, the Congolese forests will be open to industrial exploitation.

A decision that provokes protests from the organizations Greenpeace Africa, RainForest UK (RFUK) and RainForest Norway (RFN) who alerted in a letter to major climate donors of a risk of climate disaster.

But for the Congolese Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Environment, Eve Bazaiba, the moratorium was no longer respected and could not last forever.

There was a moratorium, the Congolese government no longer granted, but although the Congolese government has this moratorium, we continue to exploit.

And due to the moratorium, we have no data.

If you want to exploit, come and ask for permission.

Eve Bazaiba, Congolese Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Environment
