About 20 former rebels from the Union of Forces and Resistance (UFR) returned to Ndjamena last week after years of exile.

They met the president of the Transitional Military Council, Mahamat Idriss Déby.

The meeting took place Friday morning at the presidency and lasted 45 minutes.

Mahamat Doki Warou, former political advisor of the UFR, led the delegation.

They are former members of the rebellion who say they returned to the country after Mahamat Idriss Déby's call - last month - to participate in the national dialogue.

The meeting went well, says Mahamat Doki Warou.

“

The president told us that we had to be able to take part in the inclusive round table that will be held, without excluding anyone.

Even before coming, I contacted Mr.

Erdimi

[president of the UFR, Editor's note]

to explain to him the purpose of our return to the country.

He doesn't want to get on this train, well, I respect his opinion.

But we, after our discussion with the Head of State, are convinced that he is fundamentally for peace.

 "

Within the UFR, the delegation is not unanimous.

"

It is not a question of cadres of the movement, they do not represent us

", indicates the spokesperson of the UFR Youssouf Hamid Islagh, who specifies that his movement has always been ready for dialogue.

“

We do not reject any dialogue, but you have to know

: what dialogue is it

?

We cannot comment because we have no content, no paper, no one has contacted us officially.

I find that sitting down together is a very good initiative, but now, in practical terms, there is nothing there.

You need to go forward.

We have to meet where, when and how, what are the conditions of the meeting, etc.

 "

For the spokesperson for the UFR, a meeting can only be held outside Chad and under the aegis of the international community.
