Senegal: several opposition parties form a new coalition without the PDS

A "grand coalition of the opposition", which notably includes the Pastef of Ousmane Sonko, Taxawu Senegaal of the former mayor of Dakar Khalifa Sall, or the Unity and Rally Party (PUR), was officially launched this Thursday, September 2.

In their sights: the local elections next January.

But Abdoulaye Wade's PDS has already stood out from this new alliance.

With the logo of a bird breaking a chain, the new coalition " 

Yewwi Askan Wi 

" (in other words "

 free the people

 "), in gestation for several months, was launched in a conference room packed with representatives of a twenty political parties and movements. Among them, the headliners, in particular Ousmane Sonko and Khalifa Sall, very applauded on his arrival. One by one, the participants signed the charter of this coalition with the slogan: “

to unite

” to “ 

put an end to the governance of the Macky Sall regime

 ”.

Big absent from the ceremony: the Senegalese Democratic Party of Abdoulaye Wade. The liberal party deplored in a press release "

 several games in the shadows as well as subterfuge (...) which plague any initiative of this nature

 ". "

We were caught off guard and deplore the method,

First deadline: the local elections next January, which will be a test for this heterogeneous alliance, before the legislative elections planned - in principle - in 2022, then the presidential election of 2024.
