• The Head of State concluded his tour of Marseille subjects with a speech at the Pharo Palace.

  • No global envelope has been announced but various projects and ambitions have been drawn up.

  • The Head of State will return in mid-October and in February to see the progress of these projects.

Three emergencies, four ambitions but "not a big plan" or "a check". The Head of State, who concluded his visit to Marseille subjects this Thursday evening with a speech at the Pharo Palace overlooking the Old Port, took everyone on the wrong foot. For more than an hour of speaking disrupted by a beautiful downpour, then a sound cut, Emmanuel Macron distilled a few announcements in the middle of what seemed to be more of a general policy speech. In addition to the measures relating to "emergency security" (a new police station, staffing, 500 cameras, etc.) "social" (17 million allocation for city policy) and "health" (170 million euros). euros for hospitals), the president declined four ambitions.

To each of these points corresponds the creation of a structure. For schools, "an ad hoc company chaired by the mayor and under the control of the State", clarified Emmanuel Macron will be created "by the end of the year". With "the objective of rebuilding the schools identified as the most dilapidated", that is to say around 175 out of the 500 in the city. An educational ambition coupled with the experimentation of the freedom of recruitment for the directors of establishments, a small bomb for the world of education.

A second ambition relates to the employment of young people, encouraged to set up their business.

"It is easier to find clients than jobs", reported the Head of State of his meetings with young people from Marseille.

“A crossroads of entrepreneurship”, a place to support, train and finance young people who would like to set up their company, will be established.

At the cultural level, the president imagines well "a large studio of the Mediterranean" in Marseilles, with the imminent and rapid opening of basins of filming at sea as well as the installation of schools specialized in the audio-visual one.

Finally, at the environmental level, the outlines of a project called “Odysséo” have been drawn, a foundation for research, innovation, education, and environmental protection in the Mediterranean basin.

A new tram line

Apart from that, a new tram line was announced, as well as the extension of the metro and the creation of high-level buses, with the creation of a public interest group to carry this project.

All of these announcements were costed at 1.5 billion euros by the services of the Elysee.

Emmanuel Macron concluded his speech by announcing that he will return in mid-October and then in February, to see the progress of these projects.

With the stated desire to make Marseille “a laboratory”, and perhaps a support for its electoral campaign for the upcoming presidential election.
