• In Rennes, the Korrigo card already used to travel on the Star network or to access the swimming pools will welcome new functions, in particular for students.

  • Students from two universities and five grandes écoles will need it to access photocopiers, restaurants and university libraries.

  • Rennes Métropole hopes to encourage students to take out a public transport subscription, the monthly amount of which has been reduced by 33% this year.

It is gaining ground. As students gradually return to their schools or universities this week, many will hear about the Korrigo card. Necessary to have access to the Star metro and bus network, the orange card launched in Rennes in 2006 is increasingly presented as an all-purpose pass. Already used in some swimming pools and libraries in Rennes, the Korrigo card will almost become compulsory for students of Rennes 1 and Rennes 2 universities and of the five major schools that are members of the Unir network.

They will have no other choice if they want to go to the BU or print documents. A project that aims to reduce the number of cards in the pockets of students. But also to encourage them and the staff to take out a public transport subscription. “Our goal is to offer easy access to mobility,” says Rennes Métropole vice-president Matthieu Theurier.

In July, the community had already made a gesture in favor of some 70,000 students enrolled in Rennes, by lowering the price of the annual subscription by 33% (227 euros per year, or about 19 euros per month).

"We want to encourage the use of bicycles or public transport and limit the use of private cars", continues the elected ecologist.

Looking at the well-stocked car parks of the two universities, we tell ourselves that there is still some way to go.

#Korrigo: for students and staff of @ProjetUniR establishments, the multi-service card becomes the key to eating at the university canteen, borrowing books from the BU, accessing sports activities / equipment, using copiers on Rennes campuses!

To “encourage” students and their staff to apply for the Korrigo card, schools have been invited to develop their service offer.

In recent years, some have offered access to their photocopiers or the loan of books from the university library.

“But it was still marginal,” admits Laurent Abraham, head of the digital applications and services division at Rennes 1 University.

In one month, all the copiers of the university will be replaced and will be usable only via the Korrigo card (or by a personal code).

“Students and staff can also use it to access CROUS services such as the university canteen.

The goal is to reduce the number of cards for everyone ”.

"We were a little worried at the start"

At Sciences-Po, this return to school will be a first.

In the establishment, access to copiers will also be limited to holders of the Korrigo card.

“We are trying to ramp up, but that requires harmonization of the systems.

Other services will come, ”explains Sébastien Châbles, the communications manager.

The "migration" was not easy but it is perfectly secure, promise the establishments, which each use a different costing from other transport or swimming pool services.

“We were a little worried at the start.

It would have been easier if we had developed our own multi-service card.

But it's not that complicated.

We are part of the community ”.

Already present in several Breton towns, the Korrigo card aims to make life easier for users who move around the area.

It could in particular be used for certain CROUS services such as access to university canteens.

But it is not about to replace the traditional student card, a precious sesame that offers discounts at the cinema, for example.

“We felt that this was the initial idea, that it be present everywhere in Rennes, even in Brittany.

But everything takes time, we do not have the same information systems, ”slips a member of the establishment.

The way is still long.
