The bikes, which are borrowed via an app, are a pilot project where a new way to get more people to travel collectively is being tested.

- The service is for everyone, even if the idea comes from getting more people to use public transport in the service, says Sebastian Tay Hannebo, project manager for the interreg project Stronger Combined.

In Karlstad there are now ten bicycles, in Arvika five bicycles to borrow.

Hope more will travel collectively

The idea came from the beginning that you want to get more people who travel between the hospital in Arvika and Region Värmland's office in Karlstad to take public transport.

Since both the hospital in Arvika and the region's premises in Karlstad are quite far from the train station, many have hesitated to take the train on their business trips.

But with a free bike at the station, the region hopes that more people will choose to take public transport.

- This is a way to make it easier for people to make the whole journey in a sustainable way, says Jesper Johansson (MP), chairman of the public transport committee, Region Värmland.
